Weight Loss

January of 2014, i made a really rash decision in my life!!

I looked at myself in the mirror and realised i had become so big, i struggled to breath properly, i couldn't close my legs because my stomach hung between, i couldn't shave my legs properly or even paint my toenails for F*#@ sake!!!

The worst part of it all was the fact i felt so fat and couldn't buy clothes or look nice when my husband and i went out and my blood pressure was through the roof and i was pretty much a walking time bomb!!

So i began researching weight loss surgery, Yes i know so many people say oh lord your taking the easy way out, your not trying to lose weight, your just being lazy blah blah blah!!!!, i assure you i was not taking the easy way out, i tried every diet you could think of, i even exercised regularly, my doctor prescribed me duromine (a weight loss pill with legal speed in it) yeah i lost a few kilos but as soon as i come off it bam i put on double, i was a walking time bomb and if i didn't find some sought of help, lord only knows what would of happened to me.

So i researched the gastric sleeve (where they cut half your stomach), The bypass (pretty much joining your oesophagus to your bum) and finally lap band, i also then began to research the best possible surgeon here in Victoria and i finally settled with The Centre for Bariatric Surgery, located in Glen Iris.

The reason i chose this place was for the fact that Professor Paul O'brien was one of the founders of lap band here in Victoria and the reviews on the website were outstanding and i knew it was the place for me to go, So i made an appointment to see Dr Paul Burton (who ended up being my surgeon), i asked all the necessary questions and what i needed to do in order for this surgery to be a success and not a waste of money or time. Once i seen him he gave me a booklet to take home and study because my surgery date was in 4 weeks time and i needed to prepare.

June 20th 2014 was my surgery date, I had to be at the Avenue Hospital in Prahan, Victoria at 5am on that Friday morning, Now i had to be up at 2am to then drive the 2 hours from South Gippsland, where my husband and i lived at the time with his parents to then get to the city on time as i was first of Dr Burton's list for surgeries that morning and gee i was bloody nervous but i knew that day my life would change for the better. Once we arrived i was admitted to my room and given my gown, a antibacterial soap i had to wash my self with, as lovely hat and gigantic plastic undies, how sexy i was to look going into surgery.

Within an hour of being admitted i was being wheeled up to the operating room, and i was balling my eyes out by this stage because i had only ever had one surgery before this where i had my wisdom teeth out and i was afraid of the not knowing if you are going to wake up. I was wheeled into the warming area where they cover you with a warming blanket and prepare to put the canular in, well the nurse put the canular in and i bled every where and it made me ball my eyes out even more, then Dr Burton walked into see me before heading into the surgery and assured me i would be just fine. Sure enough a few hours later i was back in my room, with terrible gas pain and a dry sore mouth, but i was now on the bandits bench.

I returned home that evening and was drugged up pretty heavily and had a shitty sleep as i slept sitting up but lucky for us, my husband parents have the beds with the remotes so they can go straight up or semi up and so on, by the next day i was sore but walking around here and there and sipping on liquids as i had to have a liquid diet for 3 weeks and then move on to semi solids and then finally back to solid food where you then learn to eat extremely small portions and learn what foods will and wont go through the band. I did go through the OMG why did i do this to myself stage but realised it would be ok and i would recover and see the benefits at the end of the road, sure enough within the first two weeks i had dropped 10kgs.

So far on my journey i have lost 72kgs and have gone from a size 28 to a size 14-16. But GEEZ it has not been an easy 2.4years, because i have had to learn to eat small portions, only consume foods that go through the band and excercise my ass off to ensure i am dropping the weight and eating foods that are high in good nutrients to ensure i stay healthy.

It is defiantely not an easy way out, you have to stick to it and push through all the trials and tribulations and ensure you are losing the weight, Lap band is simply only my tool to help me lose this weight and keep it off.

This is just the first part of my weight loss journey, Keep your eyes peeled for the next part :D :D
