This is our second year of decorating our house for Halloween as years before we had lived with my husbands parents so we really didnt decorate their house.
This year was also our first year of being able to get dressed up after the both of us have lost such a substantial amount of weight over the last few years.
I had no idea what i was going to dress up as this year but i went to our local supermarket a few weeks ago to buy some decorations and lollies and noticed the witches hat and remembered i had brought a dress probably 6 or 8 months ago of an app called Geek and at that time the dress did not fit me so i buried it deep deep in the back of my wardrobe.
So i brought that out and paired it with some stockings (mind you 2.4years ago i could not wear a set of stockings as i was too big and even if i tried to wear them they just wouldn't stay up as all the fat rolls just pushed them right back down my hips) some flats with a gold buckle on them and my $2 witches hat from my local supermarket and then played around with my huge amount of makeup in my bathroom and came up with a green, purple and grey eye shadow with a black underline and a really black set of eyebrows hahahahaha.
My husband had no costume either but i found this scary skeleton mask at our local supermarket too that was only $3, he then put on a pair of my leggings, a black t-shirt, one of my long black shirts a jumper wrapped around his neck and head and then the mask on top with a hoodie to cover his head( he was boiling by the end of the night, but he absolutely loved it) He even covered his arms with cling wrap and tomato sauce to make it look like he had been cut up.
We had so so many kids from 5pm till around 10pm, that were so so excited with how our house was decorated and how we had lead a trail of lollies from our front gate that had a criss cross on it that had horror, beware, danger and some fake cob webs with balloons that then lead to our front door that had big googly eyes, keep out, cob webs and we even put hand prints of tomato sauce around to make it look like blood prints.
It was so amazing to see how happy the little kids were seeing all the decorations and getting lollies in their little baskets, we even had older kids who were so polite and fun and all dressed up saying that our house so far was one of the best and exciting they had seen and this truly makes us happy and proud of our love for decorating our house and celebrating this holiday that is not an Australian one but we embrace it and make it all about the kids and them having fun.
We had so many children that we ran out of lollies and i had to run back up to the shops and go and buy some more because we had to turn a few car loads of families away and tell them to return in 10 minutes as i would be back with more lollies to continue the trick or treating.
We even had some parents filming us in our costumes and handing out lollies to the kids, it put many smiles on the parents faces to see us getting into the spirit of Halloween.
Next year being our third year that we will be decorating our house and as we will be moving back to Melbourne it will be even bigger and we will start planning early next year for what we will decorate our house like and make it even more scarier and fun.
P.S- Always remeber if your going to dress the house up for halloween, buy a heap of lollies at least a month before so you do not run out like i did hahaha.
