The egg pick up and result!

So the next stage of our journey after having the follicle scan was to have a procedure known as egg retrieval. We flew up to Brisbane on the 30/03/2017. To settle into a hotel as we were told that after the procedure which was the following day I would be quite sore, and probably wouldn't be doing much. On the morning of the scan I was told to take panadeine forte as I was only having a local anaesthetic for the procedure. When it came time for the procedure the nurse asked if I'd like the green whistle (pethadene) as she described the local anaesthetic needle going into the ovaries as it would sting like a bitch, oh and how bloody right she was 😱😱😫😫. Once the anaesthetic had set in I got to watch the eggs be retrieved from each ovary and wow what a fascinating procedure it is. Before I knew how many were retrieved I was sent out in the waiting area to have something to eat as you go in on an empty stomach and with all the medication you need something to soak it all up. I'd had a cup of tea and something small to eat but then began to get super hot and sick feeling and had to be placed into the recover day bed as I was feeling horrible. While in there the nurse came in and told us that 31 eggs had been retrieved (gee I can lay eggs well šŸ˜‚). I went back to the hotel to recover for the rest of the day and night and was told we would get the call the following day on how many survived and fertilised. The following day we got the phone call to say that out of the 31 eggs retrieved we had 26 mature and 21 fertilised, they would now be grown out to day 5 (this is were they watch how well they grow and how they survive). On day 5 we got the phone call to say that 8 were hatching out of there shell and looking for somewhere to attach too and 1 was still a slow grower and would be grown till day 6. The day 5 8 embryos were then frozen. On day 6 we got another hatching embryo looking for somewhere to attach too, this was also being frozen. We ended up with 9 embryos šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜ The reason they were being frozen was due the fact I was prone to OHS (ovarian hyper stimulation) due to the large amount of eggs retrieved. This can make you quite sick and land you in hospital. Although I was quite sore I was lucky I didn't end up with any of the symptoms that are associated with this condition. Keep your eyes peeled for the next part of our journey as I now needed to recover before he next procedure. ā¤ļøā¤ļøšŸ˜šŸ˜Ā
